A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

This is my submission for NES Jam 2024, my first Game Jam !

Play as Gator, a silly alligator who looks a little hungry.

Hungry Gator is an endless platformer separated into levels. You have to jump on platforms, collect fruits and defeat enemies! Each fruits you collect and each platform you reach give you score points, and the goal is to make the best score possible and reach the maximum level without dying ! Each level is randomly generated based on platform-templates.

The game has been tested on Steam Deck, and run on both Windows (w/Proton) and Linux versions.Controls

The game has a sub-menu where all the actions are described in details, but on a gamepad, you will need only the D-Pad, B, A, and START (like the NES Controller), and the equivalent on keyboard is the arrows, C, X and Enter.

Powers

Gator's power status is indicated by the three squares at the top right of your screen :

  • The white square represents the number of jumps left before you need to reload by touching a platform.
  • The green square means that you can spawn a rescue platform by pressing the secondary button when you run out of jumps while falling.
  • The orange square stands for your ability to throw fire against enemies, which is active when you're on the ground while loading a jump.

Some random notes

This project is the result of my first game jam, I wanted to try doing a game in a limited period as a challenge for myself, it sounded like a fun experience (and it was!). This is the first time I've done pixel-art too, it's not good but I like what I have done. And to finish, Hungry Gator is also the first game I have published, so I really hope you will enjoy it!

(I am not a native English speaker, so if there are any mistakes, don't hesitate to point them out!)
